#techtiptuseday – Windows 11: The New Outlook

July 22, 2025 by First Aid

Here’s a breakdown of what’s new and how to get started:

  • Default Mail App:

Windows 11 will automatically use the New Outlook for Windows for your email, calendar, and contacts.

  • Modern Interface:

The New Outlook has a refreshed, more streamlined design compared to the older Mail and Calendar app.

  • Integration with Microsoft 365:

Seamlessly integrates with other Microsoft 365 apps and services, including Word, Excel, and OneDrive.

  • AI Features:

Offers AI-powered tools like Microsoft Editor for writing assistance and suggested meeting times.

  • My Day View:

Provides a consolidated view of your upcoming calendar events and tasks.

  • Web-Based:

The New Outlook is built on web technologies, which some users find offers a faster experience and better performance, while others find it lacks the feel of a native Windows app.

  • Account Support:

Supports various account types, including Work or school accounts licensed for Office desktop apps, and Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com, and MSN.com accounts.

  • Copilot Integration:

Access to Copilot features, including writing assistance, for users with Copilot Pro or Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscriptions.

How to Get Started:

  • Windows 11 Users:

If you’re on Windows 11, look for the “Try the new Outlook” toggle in your Mail app.

  • Other Users:

You can also download the new Outlook from the Microsoft Store or find a pre-installed version on new Windows 11 devices.

  • Migration:

When switching, you can choose to import your settings from the old Mail and Calendar app or start fresh.

  • “Classic” Outlook:

If you prefer the older version, it’s still available as “Classic Outlook” for Microsoft 365 subscribers.

Important Considerations:

  • Early Adopter Feedback: Some users have reported bugs and missing features in the New Outlook.
  • Web Dependence: The New Outlook’s reliance on web technologies might be a concern for users who prefer fully native apps.
  • Support for Legacy Features: Some legacy features and plugins might not be available in the New Outlook.

In summary, the New Outlook for Windows is designed to offer users a modern, integrated, and feature-rich platform for efficiently managing their email, calendar, and contacts. With a focus on streamlining workflows and enhancing productivity, this new version presents various improvements to optimize your digital organizational needs. However, it’s crucial to remain mindful of potential challenges that may arise during the transition. Therefore, before making the switch, take the time to assess how its enhancements align with your specific requirements to ensure a seamless and beneficial experience.
